Easter best locations
Search for Easter eggs together with the children during Easter on Texel. You can do so in the woods of Texel National Park De Duinen, near De Koog. Exactly where our accommodations are located. Idyllic flats at the edge of the woods, cosy houses in the old centre or rural bungalows in the outskirts and polders around the village. Because Texel is not that big, you never have to worry about being too far from the sea. Our holiday bungalows on Nieuwlanderweg, for example, are only 4 km from the beach. What's more, they are located in an oasis of peace and quiet against the Waalenburg nature reserve.
Everyone is coming along for Easter
The Easter holidays on Texel are an ideal time to get some fresh air together. After spending the winter indoors, it's not only good for you and the children to feel the sea breeze in your hair; your dog would also love to join in. On Texel, dogs are allowed to run free wherever it is permitted; where you have to stay on the paths, the same applies to your dog. Your dog must be kept on a leash near grazing livestock or breeding colonies, but dogs are allowed to run free on many beaches and in nature reserves such as De Dennen and the Krimbos. In addition, there are specific off-leash areas at De Koog, Den Burg, De Cocksdorp and at beach access points such as Paal 17 and Paal 28, so your four-legged friend can enjoy the outdoors to the fullest.
Easter on Texel: chilly outside, cosy inside
April can still be quite chilly on Texel. A gentle sea breeze blows across the island all year round, which is pleasantly refreshing in summer but can sometimes make for cool evenings at Easter. Fortunately, you can keep warm indoors. Light the fireplace or wood-burning stove and enjoy the cosy atmosphere while the wind blows over the dunes outside.
Your bedrooms are equipped with warm duvets to keep you comfortable at night. Our apartments and villas often have additional heating, such as block heating or their own central heating.
All accommodations have fully equipped kitchens and several bathrooms, so you can cook, relax and enjoy yourself without any worries. An overview of the specific features of each accommodation can be found in the accommodation description.
Walking during the Easter holidays
Texel is beautiful for walks in early spring, with fresh green dunes, flowering bulb fields and quieter beaches than in summer. We recommend visiting De Slufter, a unique nature reserve where the sea has free rein and you can take long walks on the beach at low tide. For families with children or guests with dogs, there are special off-leash areas at Kogerstrand and Noordpunt. Don't forget to bring sturdy shoes: in April, the terrain can still be soggy. For a short walk near your accommodation, you can explore the wooded area at De Dennen, with well-marked walking trails and a playful adventure trail for children.
Discover Texel by bicycle during the Easter holidays
Texel has an extensive network of cycle junctions covering more than 140 kilometres, making it easy to plan your own route. Popular routes for the Easter holidays include the Tour of Texel (approximately 55 kilometres) past the Eierland lighthouse and the villages on the east side of the island, or a shorter trip to the Slufter and Mokbaai (approximately 20 kilometres), ideal for families or beginners. Bicycle hire is widely available on the island, from e-bikes to children's bikes. Don't forget to bring a windbreaker: spring on Texel is windy and light rain showers can occur quickly.
Fun things to do at Easter
In addition to all the activities on offer, Texel also has plenty of sights to see. The Flora Beachcombers Museum, for example, or the Kaap Skil Shipwreck Museum. In Den Hoorn, there is a fully restored 18th-century whaler's cottage, and the little church dating from 1425 is also special enough to be worth a visit. Den Hoorn is a lovely place to visit around Easter, when the bulb fields are at their most beautiful. Texel's most famous attraction is undoubtedly the Eierland lighthouse, near De Cocksdorp. There is a permanent exhibition in the stairwell and from the top you have a magnificent view over three seas.
Parking on Texel during Easter
Parking is usually free at your holiday home or flat. There is often a charging station available. Parking on Texel itself is subject to a charge. The days when you could leave your car anywhere without paying are long gone, not only on the mainland but also on Texel. The cheapest way to park is with a Texel e-vignette. This vignette can be purchased online. On Texel, paid parking is in effect from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in all villages and at the beaches.
If you are considering travelling by public transport, this is also very easy. From Den Helder railway station, take the bus to the ferry. On Texel, you can continue your journey with Texelhopper, a minibus service that takes you to every village and tourist attraction, or the Connexxion bus service. The latter runs according to a timetable between 't Horntje, via Den Burg to the centre of De Koog.
Easter shopping in De Koog
During the Easter holidays, De Koog is a wonderful place to go shopping between the beach and the dunes. De Koog is bustling with charming shops, boutiques and clothing stores where you can find unique items. From stylish fashion and comfortable leisurewear to special accessories and local gifts: there is something for everyone. Stroll through the cosy shopping street and browse the boutiques. And after shopping, there is always time for a delicious cup of coffee and a slice of cake in one of the cosy restaurants.
