Texel asparagus

Did you know that asparagus is also harvested on Texel? From late April or early May they are available in the farm shop and at various restaurants. The Texel asparagus is also called the white gold of Texel.

Tasty and super fresh asparagus from a Wadden island! Bert and Meina Keijser from the farm 'Keijser potatoes & asparagus' grow the Texel asparagus on Ongeren. This area has fertile soil.

Asparagus love the old Texel loamy spirit soil. The success of the asparagus depends on the weather. It is not allowed to sprinkle on Texel, so nature is in charge. The asparagus is grown on virgin soil, which means that the soil is only used for an asparagus period.

’ The asparagus is stung early in the morning. The asparagus should not see the daylight to prevent the white color from changing. Sticking is quite an art, because the asparagus must be cut into the ground, without breaking it. Asparagus is harvested daily between mid-April and late June.
