Autumn Holiday to Texel
Every season has its charm on the Wadden Islands, but autumn holidays on Texel are something special. The typical autumn colours of the forests, combined with the salty scent of the sea, can only be found here. It is an ideal time for a photography holiday or a romantic weekend away. We offer beautiful apartments on the edge of the forest, just 500 metres from the sea, charming holiday homes in the centre and spacious (family) houses in the quiet suburbs of De Koog. De Koog is a village located roughly in the centre of Texel, on the edge of the Dunes of Texel National Park.
Sleep in style during your autumn holiday
The holiday homes in our range are luxurious and user-friendly. Several homes are even designed with physical disabilities in mind. Each home has comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchens. During your autumn holiday on Texel, you can choose to stay in a bungalow with an enclosed garden and/or playground equipment. This is convenient if you are bringing your dog and/or children. For a romantic weekend on Texel, we have beautiful apartments with sea views and saunas. And how about a high-tech zero-energy home on the Buytenplaats, complete with hot tub and outdoor kitchen?
Enjoying Texel together in autumn
No doubt the children spent their summer holidays with their peers while you were at work or relaxing on the beach. The autumn holidays on Texel are a great opportunity to enjoy a week of socialising. Get some fresh air together on the beach or go mushroom hunting with the forest ranger. These are just a few of the activities that bring a family closer together. And you know what? Bring the dog along too. Your dog is welcome in most of our accommodations, and the garden is even specially fenced in for them. Between 1 September and 1 March, they are allowed almost everywhere on Texel, even off the leash.
Easy travel on Texel
Texel is busier during the holiday periods than outside of them. Attractions or the beach are often easier to reach by bicycle or public transport. Your car is safe and free to park at the park or at your holiday accommodation. Elsewhere on Texel, such as in the villages and at the beaches, you have to pay everywhere. Texel's own transport service, Texelhopper, has more than 130 stops and can also be ordered at a specific time and place. In addition, there is a Connexxion bus service between the ferry port, Den Burg and the centre of De Koog.
Autumn colours and orange horizon
For many holidaymakers who visit the island regularly, Texel is at its most beautiful during the autumn holidays. When the sea buckthorn turns the dune valleys orange and the deciduous forests exchange their green for shades of yellow, red and brown. It is also during this period that mushroom walks are organised by Natuurmonumenten and Ecomare. With the bathing season over, the North Sea beach is once again available for walkers and wind sports enthusiasts. If you are lucky, you will encounter the first autumn storms and you can enjoy the fresh air in pleasant temperatures.
Discover picturesque Texel in autumn
There is plenty to do during the autumn holidays on Texel. You can enjoy shopping and dining in the picturesque town of Den Burg, explore the fishing village of Oudeschild, or get some fresh air on the beach at De Koog. But there is much more to do during an autumn holiday on Texel. From cycling to museums, horse riding to parachuting or swimming in the tropical swimming paradise Caluna or spotting seals at EcoMare. You won't get bored during your autumn holiday on Texel. For a nice souvenir, besides the undoubtedly lovely photos, we recommend a beachcomber's basket, genuine Texel wool or the special Texel cheese.
Walking and cycling with the wind in your hair
Most walking and cycling routes can be found in the island's largest nature reserve, the Duinen van Texel National Park. The area covers the entire west coast, from the Eierland lighthouse in the north to the southern tip. In addition to cycle paths for recreational cyclists, there are also MTB trails, recognisable by the blue signs with the international MTB symbol, and paths that are accessible to wheelchairs and mobility scooters. The total network of cycle paths covers more than 140 kilometres. The total number of kilometres of walking trails is even greater. Routes are available from Ecomare and VVV Texel, among others.
Taste autumn on Texel
Take the time to enjoy a hot chocolate or the award-winning Texels Bock beer at a beach pavilion, while the waves endlessly lap the shore. Or take a seat in a cosy pub as dusk falls over the island. Enjoy a delicious meal in one of the many excellent restaurants on Texel, where chefs serve up the best the island has to offer. Tip: discover Texel's unique local products. The herbal bitters and beer are famous. You can visit the producers to taste them. But there are also many small-scale products made from fruit, (salty) vegetables, cheese and dairy, meat, ice cream and wine. An excellent basis for a delicious autumn meal and a pure island feeling in your accommodation!
Texel stories and beachcomber history
Texel exudes history. Visit the Kaap Skil beachcombers' museum and discover everything about beachcombing and the island's shipping history. Fancy heading to the beach after an autumn storm? You might find something special among the flotsam. The old forts and bunkers from the Second World War also tell a unique story. This will give your autumn holiday on Texel an adventurous and educational touch.
Experiences during your autumn holiday on Texel
There are plenty of places and events to see or participate in. Ecomare, the Kaap Skil maritime museum and the many nature reserves are well known. But have you ever thought about going skydiving, taking a boat trip on a shrimp cutter or mudflat walking? In September and October, the heathland turns a deep purple colour and the sunsets are a deeper red than usual. During your autumn holiday, it is beautiful to watch this from the area around the Eierland lighthouse. You can do this from several beach pavilions, while enjoying a drink or an evening meal.
