Holiday home on Texel with dog
A Texel holiday home that allows dogs is not always easy to find in the De Koog area. However, with us, you are spoilt for choice. Beautiful apartments with balconies, located right next to the forest, or spacious detached accommodations in a suburb or secure holiday complex. We also have a wide selection of luxury holiday homes where dogs are welcome. The charming seaside resort of De Koog is nestled between the nature reserves of Duinen van Texel National Park, Zuid-Eierland and Waalenburg. Whichever way you walk with your dog, you will find yourself in the heart of nature. The North Sea beach is only 1 km away, where you will find beach posts 19 and 20.
Types of holiday homes with dogs
Enjoy a wonderful holiday in a cottage on Texel with your dog and decide for yourself where you want to stay on Texel. You can choose from a country house, family home or apartment, where you are allowed to bring your dog. We do recommend that you don't wait too long to book, as the number of cottages on Texel that allow dogs is limited compared to the total number of holiday homes available.
Luxury holiday homes to enjoy
All our holiday homes are equipped with box-spring beds with duvets and pillows. Bed linen can be booked as an option or brought from home. Depending on the property, we offer standard luxury bathrooms, separate sanitary facilities and wellness facilities, such as a sauna or whirlpool. In addition, each property has satellite audio and video equipment and free Wi-Fi. For a wonderful holiday on Texel with your dog, we have various villas and selected holiday homes available. Dogs are also welcome at our Kamperfoelie holiday park.
There is plenty to do on Texel
Texel is not a holiday resort where children are bound to be bored. On the contrary, there is plenty to do. Think mountain biking, surfing, climbing in the climbing park, watching seals and porpoises at Ecomare, or visiting an ice cream farm with them. They can see up close how their ice cream is made. Of course, you can bring your dog along on a family holiday. We offer a wide selection of lovely family villas, both in quiet residential areas and in holiday parks on Texel where dogs are welcome. Depending on your wishes and/or needs, you can choose a villa with an enclosed garden or a playground for the children on the lawn.
Your dog is welcome
Texel can safely be counted among the most dog-friendly holiday destinations. Dogs are allowed to run free in many places, and most shops and restaurants welcome your four-legged friend. Many catering establishments provide a bowl of water for thirsty dogs as standard. Enjoy the fresh air on the beach, run through the shallow water or stroll through the woods. Your faithful four-legged friend can also enjoy freedom on Texel in all seasons. This is because dogs are allowed to run free in most places. Dogs must be kept on a leash only on supervised beaches and in nature reserves. On some parts of the beach, leashes are only required during the season. The municipality of Texel lists exactly where dogs must be kept on a leash on its website.
Parking and public transport
When you decide to rent a holiday home with your dog on Texel through us, you have the option of travelling by car or public transport. In most cases, travelling by car will be the preferred option due to the presence of your pet. In that case, it is good to know that you can park your car for free at all our parks and, of course, at the private holiday homes. You will have to pay for parking at beaches and in villages. You can purchase a Texel vignette online before you come to Texel. You can choose between a day, week or year pass. Very handy! Public transport: Texelhopper runs across the entire island, stopping at 130 locations, and Connexxion line 28 follows the route ferry port, Den Burg, De Koog and back.
Nature on Texel
Enjoy a relaxing break on Texel in a holiday home with your dog. During walks, he may chase rabbits or enthusiastically dive into a flock of sheep. As the owner, you are responsible for ensuring that this does not happen. Dogs are allowed on Texel, wherever you are allowed to walk, and if you have to stay on the paths, so must he. In areas where grazing livestock is present, you must keep your dog on a leash, just as you would in the dunes. However, that won't spoil the fun for your dog. Enjoy the beautiful nature and after a nice walk, your dog can rest in your cosy holiday home.
Walking and cycling with the dog
Texel is an ideal holiday destination for day-long walking and cycling routes that never take you far from your holiday accommodation. Despite its modest size, the island has plenty of charming spots, beautiful nature and interesting sights to offer. And everything is accessible by bike via the 130 km cycle route network. The routes are marked with signs providing detailed information about the area. Even the number of kilometres between the sights is indicated. This makes it very attractive to just set off on a tour on a whim. For walkers who rent a cottage and bring their dog, there are more than 200 km of walking trails.
Places of interest
As in many other holiday destinations, Texel enforces a rule that dogs are not allowed in places where animals are kept. This includes Ecomare and Texel ZOO. Dogs are also not welcome in the Oudheidkamer in Den Burg and the Eierland lighthouse, where the stairwell also serves as an exhibition space. The island's nature is accessible to dogs almost everywhere. The exceptions are that during the breeding season, certain areas are closed not only to dogs but also to humans, and you are requested to keep your dog on a leash in areas where grazing livestock is present.
