Tips for real Texel lovers

Frequently asked questions about holiday homes

Which holiday home on Texel is best suited to my family?

That depends on the composition of your family.

For two adults, an apartment is ideal, such as Juliana in De Koog.

For two adults with children, we recommend, amongst other things, a holiday home with a garden and at least two bedrooms; a holiday home in De Koog is often ideal. The beach, shops and restaurants are nearby, so everyone can easily do their own thing. For example, Villapark Kamperfoelie.

For a large family or an extended family, an 8- or 10-person villa with several bathrooms, a spacious living room and a large garden is ideal. We have several properties to suit this, including our Nature Villas, Orchismient and Duynzoom, which we highly recommend.

If you’re holidaying with grandparents, a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor or a single-storey property may be preferable. Here too, there are various suitable properties, including Buytenplaats.

Not sure? It’s better to book something a little more spacious than strictly necessary. Extra living space often makes a holiday much more comfortable. If you have specific requirements for your holiday home, please feel free to contact us for advice.

When is the best time to book a holiday home on Texel?

This depends, amongst other things, on the time of year.

Summer holidays
Book 6 to 12 months in advance.

Holiday periods (Easter, Whitsun, etc.)
Approximately 4 to 8 months in advance.

Off-season
There is usually more choice and prices are slightly lower.

Luxury villas, holiday homes with saunas, large holiday homes and dog-friendly villas are usually the first to be fully booked. At TexelHolidays, you can often make a firm booking for the following year as early as spring.

What is the best location for a holiday home on Texel?

De Koog is one of the most popular places to stay in a holiday home on Texel. The village lies just behind the dunes, next to one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, and boasts plenty of restaurants, outdoor cafés, shops and other amenities. Texelvakanties therefore has the majority of its accommodation on offer here.

If you’re looking for a peaceful stay whilst still being close to the centre, you could, for example, choose Vakantiepark Kamperfoelie, about a five-minute walk from the village centre. Prefer to be right in the heart of De Koog? Then there are various holiday homes to choose from, including properties on Orchismient.

For more luxury and space, the Buytenplaats holiday villas are situated on the outskirts of the village. These are particularly popular with families, and there are villas with enclosed gardens where dogs are also welcome.

Would you prefer to stay as close to the sea as possible? The Juliana flats are situated on the dunes in De Koog and offer sea views.

Which location is best therefore depends mainly on your preferences: in the heart of the village, in a quiet spot on the outskirts, or right by the sea.

Can I rent a holiday home on Texel close to the beach?

Yes, you can. In and around De Koog, we have several holiday homes just a short distance from the beach. From a selection of holiday homes in De Koog, you can walk straight to the sea.

Would you like to stay right by the sea? The Juliana apartments are situated on top of the dunes in De Koog and are the only properties in the Texelvakanties range with a direct sea view.

The beach is also within easy cycling reach from various villa parks. From Villapark Kamperfoelie, it’s about a 5-minute cycle to the beach; from Buytenplaats, around 7 minutes; and from the Duynzoom villas, approximately 8 minutes.

So you can choose between a stay right by the sea, a holiday home in De Koog, or a peaceful villa a little further from the beach.

Where can I find a holiday home in a peaceful location on Texel?

If you’re looking for peace and quiet and the great outdoors, we offer a range of unique holiday homes away from the hustle and bustle of the villages. The Waalerburght Nature Villas are situated about 3 kilometres from both De Koog and Den Burg and overlook the surrounding nature reserve. Here, you’ll enjoy a peaceful yet central stay, whilst both villages are easily accessible.

One such special spot is the De Boet holiday home. This holiday home is so secluded that it can only be reached by car via a cycle path.

We also have special holiday homes in other locations across Texel where peace, space and nature take centre stage. This means you can choose a holiday home right in the heart of the Texel countryside, without having to stay far from the villages and other amenities.

Can I take my dog to a holiday home on Texel?

Yes, your dog is welcome at around 70% of our holiday homes on Texel. So you’ll have plenty of choice if you’d like to visit Texel with your dog.

For example, dogs are welcome in selected Juliana flats and holiday homes at Villapark Kamperfoelie and Duynzoom, amongst others. In many of our holiday homes, you can bring one or two dogs.

Would you like to bring more dogs to Texel? In our holiday home at Nieuwlanderweg 77, up to four dogs are welcome.

The number of dogs permitted varies by holiday home. For each property, we clearly state how many dogs you can bring.

Are there any holiday homes on Texel with a fenced garden?

Over 30 of our holiday homes on Texel have a fenced garden. This is ideal for families with young children, but also if you’re visiting Texel with one or more dogs.

You’ll find holiday homes with fenced gardens at locations including Villapark Kamperfoelie and Vakantiepark Buytenplaats. Orchismient 2 also has a spacious fenced garden and is particularly suitable if you’re bringing several dogs: up to four dogs are welcome here.

Other examples include our holiday homes at Nieuwlanderweg 51 and 75 and the Natuurvillas on Westerkolk. Are you looking for something extra special? Villa Boschduyn not only has a fenced garden but also its own swimming pool in the garden.

Can I book a holiday home with a sauna or wellness facilities through Texelvakanties?

For a relaxing stay, we offer a wide selection of holiday homes with private wellness facilities. Twenty-two of our holiday homes feature a Finnish sauna, whilst another 22 have a hot tub. We also have 10 holiday homes with a wood-fired hot tub, as well as accommodation featuring an infrared sauna or steam room.

Around De Koog, for example, at Villapark Kamperfoelie, you’ll find various holiday homes with a Finnish sauna and/or whirlpool. Our villas at Duynzoom also feature a sauna.

The villas at Villapark Buytenplaats are particularly special: here, you can relax indoors in the sauna and outdoors in the hot tub beneath the Texel starry sky, with views over the countryside.

Would you like to combine a sauna and wellness with your own swimming pool? Villa Boschduyn has both a private swimming pool and a sauna.

Holiday homes on Texel

If you want a quality holiday in a Texel holiday home, you don't want to be like herrings in a barrel. To experience that famous island feeling, it is best to choose a house that is somewhat secluded at the edge of the woods or on a small-scale complex. Such as the houses in our villa parks Buytenplaats and Kamperfoelie. Both located under the smoke of the cosy island village of De Koog and just 1 km from the beach. De Koog is located almost centrally on the island and borders the National Park Dunes of Texel.

Luxury and comfort down to the last detail

Whether you rent a new energie zero house at Buytenplaats or one of our rural private holiday homes on Texel, you will want for nothing. Surrounded by large gardens offering optimal privacy, you will stay in homes with spacious rooms and modern kitchens. Each holiday home is equipped with first-quality box-springs beds, with washable bed linen. Except at Park Buytenplaats, where bed-making service is included, you need to book bed linen in advance or bring you own. Depending on the property, you will have acces to a whirlpool, sauna or standart bathroom. If you come to the island in the colder monts, look for a Texel holiday home with a cosy gas fire or wood-burning stove,

Parking and public transport

At all our accommodation there is a parking space at your disposal or the possibility to park your vehicle. In the villages and at the beach resorts, parking is no longer free. You pay with a debit card or a Texel e-vignette. If you stay longer than a week in a holiday Texel cottage, the latter is more advantageous. If you say: "I'd rather travel by public transport," it's even easier. Texel's own transport service Texelhopper drives past more than 130 pick-up points and can be booked by time and place. Easy if you have suitcases. What's more, the hopper buses also take dogs.

Den Burg

Den Burg is centrally located on the island and is easy to reach from your holiday home. It is the lively heart of Texel and you will feel right at home here. Stroll through the charming, characterful streets and discover unique shops where you can find special souvenirs, local products and handmade items. In between shopping, you can sit down for a cup of coffee or a Texel beer on one of the many cosy terraces. There is a market in the centre on Monday mornings, where you can enjoy fresh local produce and a friendly atmosphere.

Walking and cycling

Look now for a holiday home on Texel, for a weekend or maybe even a whole week of hiking and cycling. No long dikes and polder roads that seem to go on and on.
