Looking back at a beautiful summer

Looking back on a busy but fantastic season! And what a summer it has been, full of events and activities. Texel will never bore me…

The summer kicked off wonderfully with a sunny May. I can’t recall a year with so many beach days in spring. We took full advantage of it, too. There’s almost nothing better than relaxing at our beach house for a few hours after work.

This summer, there were also many fun events organized. There was something for everyone: responsible enjoyment at the Beach Food Festival, dancing the night away at Sunbeats on Paal 17, culinary Loungy Mondays at Bij Jef, numerous fun markets and fairs spread across the island, and the Reggae festival at Paal 12 Sunny Side Up… And to close the season, we had the Tropical Sea Festival last weekend. A beautiful end to a beautiful season.

There's also something very exciting coming up in De Koog that you shouldn't miss: Texel Culinair on September 14, 15, and 16. A culinary event where you can taste many local products. The warm, dry weather this summer surely didn't go unnoticed: it had its pros and cons. For instance, Jan Jaap Kroon expects a perfect harvest for his Texel wine, and swimming in the sea was delightful with a record water temperature of 22 degrees. But on the downside, the dunes became so dry that a fire broke out near the Lighthouse, farmers saw their crops fail, and the landscape turned from green to a ‘brown-yellow’ hue. This was evident on the Texel golf course and in the dunes. There was a long ban on smoking and open fires near the dunes.

This summer also marked the return of the Leaseweb Texel Airshow! Every three years, Texel Airport hosts the unique and largest airshow in the Netherlands. Isn’t that special? On August 4, about 250 aircraft put on a stunning show. If you missed it this year, you have a good reason to come back in 2021 because it’s truly an unforgettable experience.

It was another summer to remember. I want to thank our guests for making it all possible. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Thank you, and perhaps we'll see you next year? Hopefully, we'll have another beautiful summer! I, for one, can't wait to take on the tips from the staff with our grandson!
